Servizo Galego de Saúde (SERGAS), the Galician healthcare service, is responsible for the management and provision of public health services in the National Health Care system in Galicia (NW Spain). The Gastrointestinal Oncology (GIODO), is a research group formed by 23 multidisciplinary researchers (medical oncologist, gastroenterologist and clinical pathologist). The main research lines are: a) Colorectal Cancer, Colonic Polyposis, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Genetic predisposition to colorectal cancer; b) Diagnostic colorectal cancer biomarkers; c) Health care levels coordination.

The Gastrointestinal Oncology research team is located in the hospital of Ourense, which disposes of clinical care services, research laboratory facilities and a teaching area with several classrooms for conferences, courses, meetings and training events.

The hospital is equipped with high technology equipment for the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of patients with cancer.

SERGAS will participate in the following tasks of PERSIST:

1. Clinical Advise; 2. Design of clinical studies, elaboration of protocols and management of ethical aspects related with the patients; 3. Patients recruitment and follow up; 4. Data collection; 5. Follow-up assessment.
